Our Walter Briggs Hut has a long history. Constructed in 1941 and is named after the clubs longest serving club President (1915-1948). Located approximately 90 minutes north east from Melbourne the hut is nestled in a quiet and secluded area of bushland surrounded by a lush carpet of ferns and tall native trees.
Our hut is well equipped for you to enjoy the bush setting away from the city noise without needing your tent. Included are 6 bunk beds, fire place, pot belly stove, water tank, kitchen sink and dining table but free from modern annoyances like electricity and mobile phone coverage. Just bring your sleeping bag, favourite food and marshmallows for the fire .
Activities.
There are a variety of bushwalks at your doorstep or a short drive away with some suitable for young children, young adults, adults who are young at heart and even those who like steep walking challenge. If the electronic silence or the sounds of the bush get too much then be assured that civilisation (coffee) is less than a 30 minute drive away.
Booking.
The hut is free for members (and their guests) to book for overnight stays, weekend escapes or week long adventures in Summer, Autumn and Spring. For more information about the hut you can read our Guest Information or contact the Convenor at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Other opportunities to visit the hut.
Open days and scheduled walks. Each year the club conducts a couple of open days for club members and day visitors to see the hut and usually do a short walk in the area.
Working bees. We also run regular working bees to keep up with maintenance, housekeeping and track clearing. Our working bees involve only light duties but we occasionally need some specialists and would welcome any club members willing to volunteer their trade skills.
